NZ Retail Payments Regulation
Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister, Scott Simpson, announced on July 28 that New Zealand will ban surcharging on domestic card present transactions from May 2026.

This was an obvious gap in the changes communicated by the NZ Commerce Commission in their announcement earlier in July. The NZ Commerce Commission chose to further reduce consumer credit interchange effective 1 December 2025 but took no action on surcharging.
